I was looking for a new sofa for my home and let me tell you it is not an easy thing to do. Even if you are ready to pay, even if you are ready to choose, the choices and prices are just so many that it becomes impossible to decide one.
There are infinite combinations of qualities and prices available and they all look the same but cost different. If you go to a branded shop, the costs are too high and if you go to a non-branded one, it is impossible to trust the quality of what you are buying. I had to learn about the wood and the fiber, the cloth and the contrast. It was an interesting as well as a harrowing exercise. The choices are almost infinite and my aesthetic sense, not that helpful. That said, I was able to finalise one!
And as the new one got delivered, I think I feel more confident that what I chose was good enough and seems to be fine. It was a mind numbing exercise but all is well that ends well. I spent several weeks going through several different parts of the city figuring out just the right thing!
A quote from Trainspotting comes to mind!
Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suit on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourselves. Choose your future.
